Pictures of S 228 - 1938
Tuesday, January 24th, 2006I just have to show this picture of Brita that now is in Sweden at kungsör, Tom Thornton that owned Ondine did a great job with the structure and probably saved here from being destroyed:
Tom writes:
Yes, she was in extremely poor shape when I found her. She had sat uncovered in a boatyard that went bankrupt for at least five years. Work I did:
26 new frames replaced in the hull by steam bending and riveting with copper rivets as per original construction
Half the deck re-framed, mast partners replaced and re-reinforced.
cock-pit framing re-placed
all interior fittings stripped, sanded and varnished to completion.
Cabin trunk stripped and cleaned up ready for installation and finish work
new stern post made and fitted, but not installed
new keel made, fitted but not installed
interior of hull had 5 coats of Sikkens applied and needs two more to complete
lower bilge has been painted
Hull sides stripped in preparation for new varnish
That’s a lot of work!
